The Japanese-Language Proficiency Test is a killer 3 part exam. Some of you may be taking the test this year. I thought I would whip some practice questions for you over the coming months. What is JLPT? The Japanese-Language Proficiency Test is this crazy "all multiply choice" examination occurring on the first Sunday of December in Japan and 40 other nations. The test was developed for to evaluate and certify non-native speakers Japanese-language proficiency. The crazy thing is you don't need to be proficient at speaking Japanese. However you do need to be proficient in the following areas;
The test has four different levels. Just to give you an idea of how difficult the test is, in 2004 of the examinees who took the test outside of Japan less than 50% passed the test in all levels. Those who took the test in Japan faired better, but with a total average of only 56.6% passing the test. In total, of all examinees who took the test worldwide only 47.3% passed. The test is a killer with many students walking out after attempting only one section.
